Qualifications
Qualifications and judging
How do I apply for a professional qualification?
Log in to the member dashboard and open the Professional Qualifications benefit. Start the application, choose the qualification you are eligible for, accept the submission rules, upload your image panel, and pay the assessment fee. The form walks you through each step; member-only submission guides for each tier are linked from the application and from the members area.
What qualifications are available, and in what order do I progress?
The pathway is: Diploma in Photography (nDip), then Licentiate (LNPS), then Associate (ANPS), then Fellowship (FNPS), and finally Specialist qualifications for photographers who already hold at least Licentiate-level recognition. You must complete the Diploma before Licentiate, Licentiate before Associate, and both Licentiate and Associate before Fellowship. Specialist follows the main pathway.
How many images must I submit?
Each qualification panel requires exactly twenty images of your own work. They must follow the technical rules in the submission guides—for example a minimum size along the longest edge, no disallowed watermarks, no generative AI images, and no images taken solely under a mentoring or training session where the rules prohibit that.
What letters may I use after my name when I pass?
Successful candidates may use the recognised post-nominals for their tier, such as nDip for the Diploma, LNPS for Licentiate, ANPS for Associate, and FNPS for Fellowship, in line with the standards published for each qualification.
Can I transfer qualifications from another organisation?
Yes. If you already hold qualifications elsewhere, you can submit a Qualification Transfer request from the member dashboard. Complete the form with your previous organisation, qualification name and level, and any supporting details so we can review your record.
What if my panel is not successful?
You may submit a new panel for the same qualification. A resubmission fee applies (see the price shown when you apply). The Diploma remains open for first-time candidates and for resubmission after an unsuccessful attempt.
Where can I read the full technical requirements?
Overview pages for each qualification are on the public Qualifications section of the website. Full image submission requirements and expectations are in the member-only submission guides, linked from the application flow and from the members area (for example Diploma, Licentiate, Associate, and Fellowship guides).
Do I need a paid membership to apply for qualifications?
Professional qualifications are included for members whose plan has the Professional Qualifications benefit. If your current plan does not include it, upgrade from the membership section of your dashboard before applying.
