The International Association for Photographers - helping members worldwide
Our story began in the UK with The National Photographic Society, created by photographers who wanted practical support, recognised standards, and qualifications that reflected the realities of working in photography.
Over time, the Society grew beyond the UK and attracted photographers from around the world.
As that international membership developed, the organisation evolved into The International Association for Photographers. The name changed, but the purpose remained the same: to support photographers, raise professional standards, and provide meaningful recognition for their work.
The NPS began in the UK, but photographers from outside the country soon became part of the membership too. What started as a national organisation gradually became an international one.
Today, The IAFP has members in countries including the United States, Australia, the Falkland Islands, Madagascar and Sri Lanka. The association now reflects the international membership it serves.
As membership became increasingly international, the National Photographic Society name no longer described the organisation particularly well.
The move to The International Association for Photographers reflects what the organisation has become, while the NPS name continues through the qualification system that many photographers already know.
The NPS qualification system remains an important part of The IAFP.
Photographers can continue to work towards established distinctions including LNPS, ANPS and FNPS, with the same emphasis on photographic skill, consistency and professional standards.
Keeping the NPS qualifications also means existing holders retain continuity with the awards they have already earned.
The IAFP exists to give photographers practical support, professional recognition and a community they can turn to when they need it.
We provide qualifications, accreditation and guidance that help photographers demonstrate their skills and work to recognised professional standards.
Members can access help with the practical side of photography, from business and technical support to mentoring, training and professional services.
We bring photographers together to share experience, learn from one another and make useful professional connections.
The IAFP is run for photographers, with a focus on useful support, meaningful recognition and helping members develop their photography, businesses and careers.
